Description
Type A Blue Indicating Silica Gel is a desiccant and used to dry and maintain the humidity of a contained area. Blue Silica Gel beads are indicating forms of desiccant as they change color when adsorbing moisture. Blue Indicating Silica Gel is covered with a moisture indicating solution, containing cobalt chloride, that gives them a blue color when dry. The Blue Silica Gel beads become a pink color as they adsorb moisture which indicates the desiccant needs to be regenerated or replaced.
Silica Gel beads are manufactured by using sodium silicate to create a porous form of silicon dioxide (SiO2). It consists of 97% silica and 3% alumina with a highly porous surface and a lust for absorbing water.
While used to reduce moisture in packages when stored, our bulk Silica Gel desiccant is typically used to dry compressed air and gas. Dew points of -40?F can be achieved with Silica Gel beads when using a compressed air dryer or gas dryer. Silica Gel can also be used as a catalyst carrier, separator, variable-pressure adsorbents, and other purposes.
As Silica Gel fractures in the presence of liquid water, it is typically protected by a 10% to 15% (by weight) layer of Activated Alumina desiccant as a water buffer on the inlet side of the desiccant bed.
Bullets
- Indicating silica gel changes from blue to pink.
- High moisture retention allowing for more efficient desiccant dryer operation.
- Uniform bead shape allows for lower pressure drop and less abrasion.
